Creating a Beach-Themed Christmas Village with a magical Sea Glass Tree

This year has been hectic with painting and attending art shows, so I began my shopping a bit later than usual. During my shopping, I discovered the most adorable Christmas villages, all in white, some with teal accents and a beach theme. A few made their way home with me! My new beach-themed village needed a tree, so I decided to make one myself, and I'm thrilled with the result!

Steps to Create your Sea Glass Christmas Tree

Follow these five straightforward steps! Each one is thoroughly explained below so you can easily follow along with me!

  1. Gather Materials: Collect your sea glass, a base, fairy lights, decorations and glue gun

  2. Choose a Base: Use a small white foam or wood cone or create a tree shape from cardboard.

  3. Add Lights: Incorporate some soft white or teal fairy lights for a magical touch.

  4. Decorate: Attach the sea glass, seashells and starfish using hot glue.

  5. Finish with a Star: Top your tree with a starfish or a decorative star to complete the look.

Now my beach-themed village feels complete and festive, perfectly capturing the spirit of the season with a coastal twist- Christmas tree sea glass ocean village complete!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Alright, let’s get this craft party started!

You’ll need:

2- 28 oz bags (or one larger size bag) of blue or teal sea glass (or any color you like) I used a full bag of 28 oz sea glass ordered from amazon and part of the second bag

A cone-shaped base (think foam or wood for a more sturdy tree)

Warm fairy lights for that magical glow mine measured 6.5 feet with 20 LED lights

Star decorations to add some whimsical charm. You coudl also use tiny shells

a star for the top of your tree.

Hot glue gun with plenty of glue sticks

glue the light battery pack to the bottom with screws showing. Overhang the first row of glass to cover the thickness of the battery pack

Step 2: The Base

Begin by preparing your cone-shaped base. This will act as the foundation and will be entirely covered once we are done. Foam is a cheaper option and works fine because the glass will add some weight to your tree when finished. I used a wooden cone for two reasons: one, I wanted the tree to feel strong and sturdy, and two, I had one already sitting on my shelves in the studio! I painted my wooden cone white so the color of the glass would be brighter once complete. Any white paint will work—my favorite is FolkArt Multi-Surface Craft Paint.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0714CLZJQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Step 3: Illuminate with Lights

It's time to wrap lights around your base. Start by attaching the battery pack to the bottom of the base with hot glue, making sure the screws are visible for easy battery replacement. Next, wrap the lights from the bottom to the top and back down again until all are secured. Use hot glue to hold the wire in place as you go.

*Hint: Check the position of the lights as you work to ensure they don't all line up on one side, leaving some areas without lights. Adjust the lights to ensure they are evenly distributed around the cone.

The sea glass will cover the lights, creating an enchanting glow for your creation.

It's time to get creative! Start by sorting your glass and separating out the largest pieces. I removed any pieces that were too large and distinctly different from the rest.

Begin attaching the largest pieces along the bottom using hot glue, ensuring they hang off the bottom of the base to conceal the battery pack underneath.

Secure your larger sea glass to the base, forming a ring around the bottom. Fit them together as closely as possible, allowing for minimal overlap as you work your way around the tree.

Keep working in rings around the tree. Each row overlaps the one below just a bit. Enjoy the process of fitting the pieces you have fitting them like a puzzle as you work your way up the cone. You will transition from large to medium and then finish with small pieces of glass at the top.

Don’t be afraid to let your creativity flow—this is where the magic happens.

Step 5: Add Decorative Touches

Now for the fun part—decorating! Sprinkle star ornaments around to elevate your tree’s charm. Let your personality shine through with any additional embellishments you love. Remember, this isn’t about perfection but rather embracing your individual style!
